Client First
My organizing theory is based on my clients. Each client is different and has different needs. I focus on your goals through every step of the organizing process. I always prefer the client to work with me or at least nearby. I need frequent input on what you use and how you use it as I organize your space. I naturally organize with a very practical style and try to reuse items clients already have if possible. I'm also happy to recommend products when they're needed and will work within the client's preferences.
In architecture, we learn that form follows function. It's important for a space to look a certain way, according to the client's goals, but more importantly, I aim to make it function to simplify and streamline your life while also saving you time and money.
It's important to me to get to know my clients, and I love that part of this job. Please contact me to see if I can help you!
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a professional organizer do?
Professional organizers work in a client's space to help them de-clutter by removing unnecessary items and implement systems to use the space more efficiently and effectively. Skills may include the ability to imagine a space's most optimal layout, recommending products or other professionals, packing and unpacking, reusing items already in a space more efficiently and increasing productivity through the organization of spaces and schedules.
How much do you charge?
My rates range from $40-$60/hour. Clients choose their rates based on the total work time needed and deposit amount. I offer an in-home assessment to help both of us know what to expect and provide an estimate. At the assessment, I'm happy to give tips and ideas to help you get started as well as answering any questions you have.
Is this the worst you've ever seen?
It's funny how often I've been asked this! Honestly, none of the houses I've been in have been scary. The worse the mess, the higher the potential for change!
Do you work with hoarders?
Short answer, no. I'm not trained to work in situations where the client values their stuff more than their health, which is what is happening in these unfortunate instances. However, many people think they (or their parents, friend, neighbor, child, sibling, etc) are a hoarder because they have a lot of stuff and have a hard time getting rid of things. If it's a serious problem that could endanger your health, I recommend psychological treatment, along with working with a professional organizer to prioritize, categorize, and organize items. I don't organize trash.
Do you clean houses?
When we get a room, closet, cabinet, etc. cleared out, we'll give it a light cleaning before putting items back in. When we unpack a box, we'll clean up any trash. When organizing a dresser drawer, we'll fold clothes. So yes, there is definitely cleaning involved with organizing. However, I'm not a professional cleaner. I'm not in homes to clean, and I don't provide any cleaning items. We'll use your vacuum, trash bags, and other cleaning supplies unless otherwise arranged. Part of staying organized might mean implementing a cleaning/chores schedule or hiring a cleaning professional to come in and clean regularly for you.
Do you travel outside of Knoxville for work?
I live in West Knox County, so I tend to focus my work in West Knox - Cedar Bluff, Farragut, Hardin Valley, Karns - and surrounding areas including Oak Ridge, Lenoir City, Maryville, and Alcoa. Traveling outside of my area may require additional travel fees which can be discussed on a per job basis.
How long have you been organizing?
I started Emily No-Mess Home Organization in 2015, when my children were both in school. I've been helping people get organized as long as I can remember. I always loved reorganizing my own stuff in my room, folding sheets and towels to look nice in the closet, and stacking plastic containers like blocks in Grandma's kitchen.
